Biography

Barry Sullivan has been practicing law for 15 years in Hawaii and became a partner in Bickerton Lee Dang & Sullivan on January 1, 2004.

Barry has been lead counsel on some of the largest and most complicated hotel and resort transactions in Hawaii, including the negotiation and sale of The Hualalai Resort and Four Seasons Resort at Historic Ka`upulehu, the re-financing, partner buyout and ultimate sale of The Kahala Mandarin Oriental Resort Hawaii, the pre-bankruptcy sale of The Kona Village Resort, and the sale of The Maui Westin Resort, among others. Mr. Sullivan has been a pioneer of the pre-negotiated, competitively bid method for closing complicated, time-sensitive asset and business sales while maximizing intrinsic asset value. In addition to closing deals, Barry advises some of Hawaii's largest hotel, resort and commercial land owners regarding ongoing operations, joint ventures, lease negotiations, and development.

Barry also has had substantial success as lead counsel in complicated commercial and real estate litigation. He has twice recovered more than $6 Million for his consumer clients in complicated commercial or real estate disputes and has successfully defended cases of all varieties including the defense of environmental, commercial or professional malpractice claims in excess of $50 Million.

Barry graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1988 with a B.A., with College Honors, in Economics. Barry served as an infantry soldier in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard, was Student Body President, Student Trustee on the University Board of Trustees, and received both the Citicorp Scholarship and the Edwin Frank Prize in Finance. Barry was a semi-professional bicycle racer and raced throughout the US and Europe before attending Cornell Law School where he graduated, cum laude, in 1992.

In addition to his legal interests, Barry has consulted with a number of Hawaii startup businesses and entrepreneurs and was the CEO and CFO of a venture-funded, San Francisco-based Internet enterprise software manufacturer.
