Biography

George “Buck” Ashford has been practicing law as a litigator in Hawaii since 1965. He served aboard ships as an officer in the U. S. Navy during the period 1957-1961, including tours as Chief Engineer of a destroyer, and Main Battery Officer of a cruiser, and thereafter in the Naval Reserve from 1962-1974.

During his practice, Buck has handled litigation matters for numerous major corporations and insurers including General Motors, Chrysler Corporation, General Electric Company, Amfac, Inc., Dillingham Corporation, C. Brewer & Company, Sears Roebuck & Co., Kaiser Cement, Hilton Hotels Corporation, H & R Block, Texaco, Inc., Mitsui Trading Company, Horace Mann Insurance Company, Marine Officers Protection Society, Aetna Insurance Company, Royal Globe Insurance Companies, Lloyds of London, Insurance Company of North America, Transport Indemnity Company, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, Pacific Insurance Company, California Union Insurance Company, CNA, Clark Equipment Company, CIGNA of Canada, Eastern Marine Underwriters, Foss Maritime Company, International Cargo & Surety Insurance Company, Marubeni Corporation, Nissan Fire & Marine Insurance Co., Ltd., and Hawaiian Tug & Barge Company.

Buck has extensive experience in litigating serious injury and death cases, particularly in cases involving maritime, recreational and sports accidents.

Buck was a founding member and trustee of the non-profit Hawaii Maritime Center at Pier 7 in Honolulu Harbor, and served pro bono as its general counsel for decades.

Buck has eight children and stepchildren, and has been active for years in various community organizations and activities, children’s sports teams, and parent-teachers associations.

During the period 2003-2007, Buck was a certified U. S. Tennis Association Official and actively officiated at USTA sanctioned tennis tournaments in the State of Hawaii.
